Unleashing True Confidence: The Power of Perspective & Deep Human Relationships



Confidence is often associated with material possessions, achievements, or physical attributes. However, it is essential to recognize that confidence can be deeply rooted in personal experiences and the relationships we form with others. In this article, we will explore the role of perspective and personal stories in building confidence. Two real-life examples, both from my own experience, will be used to demonstrate the power of personal narratives and meaningful connections in shaping self-confidence.


The Gym Example


As someone who has been training in gyms for 15 years and even competed in powerlifting, earning second and third places, you might assume that I would naturally feel confident because of my impressive track record. However, my confidence doesn't stem from my fit body or my participation in competitions. Instead, it comes from my performance – my ability to lift heavy weights with excellent technique and posture, and the practical applications of my physical strength.


Over the years, I have come to understand that my confidence in the gym is rooted in my passion for the sport and my dedication to continuous improvement. The process of setting goals, working hard to achieve them, and witnessing my progress over time has been incredibly empowering. Moreover, the camaraderie I have experienced with fellow gym-goers and the support and encouragement we provide each other have also contributed to my confidence. This example highlights the importance of perspective and how we interpret our accomplishments in shaping our self-confidence.


The Car Example


Another example illustrating the power of perspective and personal stories in building confidence comes from a deeply meaningful experience involving my first car, a Ford Focus 2000. For many, owning a particular car can be a significant confidence booster. However, it is not the car itself that matters to me; it's the story behind it.


My Ford Focus was a gift from one of my very first clients. He was struggling with depression and often told me about his difficulties and the strange things he would do in order to calm down. I felt empathy for him, and we started a ritual of going to the sauna together every weekend, followed by cold showers. Our weekly sauna sessions quickly became something we both looked forward to, and my client's mental health began to improve.


One day, he called me and asked if I wanted his car. He was buying a new one and wanted to get rid of his old car as quickly as possible. I thought he was joking, so I invited him over for coffee to discuss the price. To my surprise, he showed up with the car in wonderful condition and handed me the keys.


This experience – receiving my first car as a gift from a client whose life I had helped transform – has had a profound impact on my confidence. It is not the car itself that makes me feel confident; it is the deep, natural, and meaningful human connection that resulted from our shared experiences. This incredible story of gratitude and friendship serves as a powerful reminder of the difference we can make in others' lives and the self-belief that can come from such meaningful connections.
